The monthly issues of The Shelterdeck have now been discontinued, although all the ones published so far will remain available via the links below.    The reason for this, was the gradual trailing off of interest, each one having less downloads that the one before.   Issue four only had four downloads, whilst the latest, number five, had none at all in during the 48 hours that it was available.    The four persons who did download number four, will have seen the start of a comprehensive building log, complete with plans, of the topsail schooner Julia. This build will continue, but the whole write-up will appear  as a single download  after it is complete.

Tuesday, 4th December, 2017.   The first printed edition of From Good Hope to St Helena, was published yesterday, Monday the 4th December.

A5 size book 8.3 inches by 5.8 inches and half inch thick.
202 pages including 2-page photograph index.
324 illustrations in colour and black and white.  Including lines, profile and deck plans of the old RMS St. Helena (1978 - 1990).
This book essentially covers the latter half of my sea career from 1973 to late 1992, from my service aboard the RMMV Good Hope Castle, to two years in the cross trades in a bulk carrier, oil tanker and general cargo/log carrier of the Silver Line/Vlasov group, and ending with my final 13 years in Curnow Shipping/St Helena Lines in both the old and new St. Helena's.    Chapters 6 to 11 inclusive  are devoted almost exclusively to the old St. Helena (1978 - 1990).     Although the new (present) ship is included, I have not gone into it in any great depth, as I was only there for the first two years.   I will leave it to someone  else to write it up more completely.
The price, has been set at £12.99, and that includes postage to the UK only.   For anywhere else, please enquire.    This first print run was 40 copies.    Today, 5th Dec. only 26 remain available.

Monday, 13th November, 2017
I have been very busy for some months now, writing a book on my sea experiences from 1974 to late 1992.    For printed version - see above.
I have finally completed the download version of "From Good Hope to St. Helena." (A story of the Merchant Navy). It is 202 pages, (including the two-page index) and has 324 images, mainly colour and black and white photographs, plus a lines and general arrangement plan of RMS St. Helena (I), with model shipbuilders in mind. Please click the link below, and scroll down to read the synopsis. Then, if you wish to purchase a download, a Paypal button is provided for £4.99. The file is about 89mb, and I have tested it on our average broadband link, and it takes approximately two minutes to download into the PC. It may then be copied, and transferred to a tablet. If printed, it will produce an A4-sized book. It includes service with Union-Castle, Silver Line and Curnow Shipping (St Helena Line).

Instructional Downloads
A number of instructional downloads on how to build models such as these, are available via the automatic download system of Payhip.    The cost of these downloads range from free, to a maximum of £8. via Paypal.     The synopsis links are available in the relevant section of the site below.   By clicking the links, and scrolling down below the image, you are not comitted to purchase, but may read the synopsis of each.   Should you then wish to purchase, a Paypal button is provided.  You will NOT be bombarded with SPAM after receiving any download, as I tend to "speak only when spoken to in this respect!"
All the model ships on this website were hand-built by myself, using any materials that came to hand.        They are NOT kits!     This type of model shipbuilding has virtually died out now, with most modellers preferring kits.       The models are built to small scales, usually 32 feet to 1 inch (1:384), or slightly largers scale for smaller ships.       Modellers will often state "I could never do that," and there the matter rests!     They are not, however, all that difficult when special modelling techniques are used.    For some time now, I have been putting these techniques into various downloads for prices that range from £1.49 for the shorter ones of 15 or so pages, up to £8 for the comprehensive ones that contain over 150 pages with hundreds of illustrations, and several "free" downloads thrown in, to allow you to decide if you like the style, or not.       The synopsis of these downloads may be viewed by clicking on the links supplied.   Then, if you wish to purchase any particular download, a Paypal button is available in the synopsis.    The system is fully automatic, and you will receive a download link the moment that payment is made.     The downside for most modellers is the fact that over 99% of my models are of merchant ships.     I find them rather more interesting and colourful than warships, but the techniques may be used for whatever type of vessel you may wish to build.      The download summary is given further down this website.
